At CAVGP we are committed to supporting Doctors who are thinking of becoming partners

29 November 2022

We are committed to supporting doctors who are thinking of becoming partners, or who recently have become partners, in their new venture.

We can provide confidential help and guidance in becoming a new partner, answer any questions, and talk through any concerns you may have.

What’s Available?

We can offer face to face, virtual, telephone or e-mail advice with one of our experienced GPs. The areas of support will depend upon your needs. Examples include:

  • Is this the right practice for you?
  • Do the numbers add up – do you understand the accounts?
  • Buying in? Leases?
  • Is there an up-to-date partnership agreement and are you happy with it?
  • Workload – how much do you want to work? How are on-calls, house visits shared?
  • Non-NHS work – how is this shared out and paid?

Who will be providing the Support?

Dr Charlie Williams

After completing VTS training Charlie joined a busy practice in Blaenavon as a GP partner. She has recently stepped down to a salaried role to spend more time with her young daughter and develop her other interests. Prior to GP training she completed the Welsh Leadership Fellowship leading two projects focusing on frailty in the community and keeping older people safe and well in their own homes. She was the RCGP AiT representative to Welsh Council during training and continues as part of the South East Wales Faculty. She now splits her time between her clinical role in Cwmbran and her work as a Community Director for Primary Care within CAVUHB.

Dr Ceri Walby

Ceri is an inner-city Cardiff GP Partner. She has worked as a locum, OOH, in rural Australia and as a partner in Maesteg and has been at her current practice since 1998. Working seven sessions per week in general practice she understands the pressures faced by GPs, and the need of good work life balance.

Dr Richard Baxter

Trained and then worked as a GP partner (for over 20 years), clinical leader and GP appraiser in London before moving to Barry in 2021. He now combines working locally as a salaried GP with working in quality improvement and GMS sustainability for the Health board. He understands well how challenging, but also vital, continuous improvement is amidst the intense pressure of general practice. Living with his wife and family on Nells point and building connections with the ‘island’ community ensures his healthy work life balance.
